Outstanding Position Papers

“Uni-Duisburg-Essen goes NMUN” was once again the motto in 2009. As in the previous three years, a National Model United Nation (NMUN) delegation was again formed at the University Duisburg-Essen.
We are these 24 delegates who have had the honor to represent India at the UN simulation in New York from 5th-9th April 2009.
Despite the fact that students from all subjects and fields of study are allowed to participate in the NMUN, most of us are studying either Political Science or International Relations and Development Politics.
What unifies us all is an interest in multilateral diplomacy. Together with around 6000 other students from all over the world we debated and discussed, wrote resolutions and took a deep look into the diplomatic workflow of the United Nations. Not only did this simulation provide us with hands-on experience in the work and functioning of the biggest international organisation of the world, we also gained a better knowledge of current political issues as well as enhanced our personal qualifications, such as improving our soft skills.
We were able to prepare our participation in the largest student conference worldwide through weekly meetings. Along with researching detailed information about “our” country, we focused our preparation on the rules and procedures of the NMUN in order to guarantee a self-confident, open-minded, well-organised and dedicated performance in New York.

This was an evident success as we had the honor to be the first delegation from Duisburg-Essen to win an award for their outstanding position papers.
