The “Duisburg-Essen Model United Nations” (DuEMUN) project is organized by the student Association DuEMUN e.V. and the Institute of Political Science in cooperation with the Institute for Development and Peace (INEF), the Institute of East Asian Studies (IN-EAST) and the Confucius Institute Metropolis Ruhr at the University Duisburg-Essen. The DuEMUN Project enjoys the patronage of Adolf Sauerland, Lord Mayor of Duisburg.

Since 2005 students from Duisburg-Essen, national and international partner universities have convened and debated as delegates in the “UN Security Council”, and other UN organs.
Moreover, members of the association have participated in various national and international Model UN simulations (e.g. in New York, Geneva, Beijing and Lahore).

The student initiative frequently invites scholars, ambassadors and politicians for discussions on a wide range of topics.

The aim of the project is to apply theoretical concepts of International Relations to practice and to develop networks with international partner universities.

A more recent part of the project is to introduce the UN simulation concept to schools and to strengthen the links between pupils and students of educational science at the University of Duisburg-Essen.

The DuEMUN Association is a manifestation of the members’ commitment to promote the DuEMUN goals in the spirit of ‘students for students’.

Das Projekt “Duisburg-Essen Model United Nations” (DuEMUN) wird seit dem Jahr 2005 von dem studentischen DuEMUN e.V., dem Institut für Politikwissenschaft in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Institut für Entwicklung und Frieden (INEF), dem Institut für Ostasienwissenschaften (IN-EAST) und dem Konfuzius Institut an der Universität Duisburg-Essen organisiert. Die Schirmherrschaft über das Projekt hat Adolf Sauerland, Oberbürgermeister der Stadt Duisburg übernommen.

In den vergangenen Jahren, sind Studenten der Universität Duisburg-Essen und internationaler Partneruniversitäten als Delegierte in verschiedenen UN Organen zusammengekommen, um gemeinsam aktuelle und kontroverse Themen der Weltpolitik zu debattieren.
Mitglieder des DuEMUN Vereins haben zudem an zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen MUNs (z.B. New York, Genf, Peking, Lahore) teilgenommen.

Regelmässig wurden und werden Botschafter, Wissenschaftler und Politiker von der studentischen Initiative zu Diskussionsveranstaltungen eingeladen.

Ziel des Projektes ist es, theoretische Konzepte der Internationalen Beziehungen in der Praxis zu verdeutlichen, sowie Netzwerke mit internationalen Partneruniversitäten aufzubauen.
Eine neuere Initiative des Projektes, versucht das Konzept der UN Simulation an Schulen einzuführen, um Schüler und Studenten im Lehramt besser miteinander zu vernetzen und um Einblicke in ein Studium zu ermöglichen.

“Von Studenten für Studenten” ist das Credo des DuEMUN e.V, der sich für die Förderung der DuEMUN Ideale einsetzt.
